Apple updates security on new Mac version

Mac OSX with the new update to version 10.6.4 has a built-in Mac malware protection in order to help Mac protect against backdoor trojan. The trojan is reported that can help hacker gain remote control over the devices with Mac OS. Apple doesn't mention about this in the changes log or release note but XProtect.plist, a rudimentary file which contains elements signatures, has been updated to detect HellRTS.

HellRTS is distributed by hackers under the cover of the iPhoto application. It is determined as OSX/Pinhead-B by a Sophos product. Mac devices which get affected by this malware get many information accessed by the hackers. They can send emails from your Mac, access system files and clipboard info and take screenshots.

This malware is dangerous due to it's origin and Mac users knowledge. instead of informing users about the threat, Apple chose to silently update their OS. And this will lead to many problem in the future when there are more viruses and malwares are developed to attack Mac.

As a Mac user, you should start to recognize possible threats and take the Mac security serious. The recent update of Apple can be called the first step but it can't replace an anti-virus' functions. Kaspersky for Mac is a good anti-virus you should consider installing on your Mac.
